The Boy Who Taught His Mom To Write
Angel, a five-year-old from San Lorenzo El Cubo, began preschool a year late because his parents never saw education as a path to opportunity. His mom, Katy, had never attended school, and struggled to communicate in Spanish when enrolling him. But Angel’s curiosity and determination led him into the classroom of Karla Lorenz, a GLXi-trained teacher whose reading and writing activities quickly transformed learning into a joyful experience at home. Little by little, Katy began learning alongside her son. One day, Angel proudly taught his mother to write her own name and changed her perspective of education forever.
