Did you know that an estimated one out of every seven kids worldwide struggle with dyslexia? GLXiⓇ teachers know this, because they have experienced its prevalence firsthand. They thus exhibited a palpable excitement as they participated in our recent teacher workshop – teaching to dyslexia.

GLXi’s first-ever teacher assessments showed significant achievements and also will help shape the Open Books, Open Minds program going forward.

GLXi held its teacher graduation on Jan. 20, and it was a virtual celebration to remember.

The 57 teachers who participated in the Open Books, Open Minds training program this past year completed their book projects, which will add to GLXi's growing digital library for Guatemalan kids.

This past year, for the first time since the pandemic, students returned to classrooms full time and we were able to administer student assessments at both the beginning and end of the year. This gave us a comprehensive read of student progress – and also an understanding of how GLXi’s curriculum is helping classrooms recover from the multi-faceted blows of the pandemic. The results are even better than we could have predicted!

Fiesta Planning Committee member Sue Clifford made some amazing centerpieces for our Fiesta and we couldn’t wait to share them.

Known as “end-of-year-vacation” or Christmas vacation – even though it lasts from Nov. 30 to Feb. 15 – this is a time of advancement for students, as they prepare to move on to the next grade, while also holding on to precious memories and all that they learned in their current classrooms.

The celebration of Independence Day in Guatemala is a big deal, involving a range of activities and events that gain involvement from entire communities.
