GLXi Teachers Receive Literacy Kits
The “return to school” this year was anything but typical for so many students and teachers across Guatemala.
Even though these determined educators and students have gotten used to overcoming challenges, it is in many ways impossible to prepare for the uncertainty and volatility of circumstances that accompany pandemic learning.
Let’s just say that we have already witnessed so many displays of patience, creativity and flexibility from our participants in this program!
That’s why this year, a routine act — sending out literacy kits to our participating teachers — became about so much more than just providing classroom supplies.
To us, it was a gesture of appreciation and respect for all that our teachers are doing to make learning feel “normal” for students, even when the school experience is anything but.
The reopening plan varied significantly by region, with four different alert levels: red, orange, yellow and green.
They reflect 100% virtual, two levels of hybrid and face-to-face. The hybrid and face-to-face abide by safe distancing specifications. Within each level there are also specifications regarding recess, sports, and cultural activities as well as food at school and school transport.
It’s a lot to wrap your head around.
So these literacy kits also became a way to communicate this: GLXi is here for teachers, no matter the circumstances. We will get through this together!
