Buy a Book. Share a DEAR GLXi Video. Change Lives.

Imagine your life without the ability to read.

For many kids in Guatemala, that is a reality.

Global Learning Exchange Initiative (GLXi) has worked for a decade to promote literacy in Guatemalan classrooms by training teachers, establishing a curriculum, and bringing the simple joys of books and supplies to children.

The DEAR GLXi effort, which stands for Drop Everything And Read for GLXi, kicks off April 12, 2024. The social media-based campaign seeks to spread awareness for GLXi’s mission and raise funds for the St. Louis-based nonprofit’s Books for Guatemala fundraising campaign.

SUPPORT
DROP EVERYTHING AND READ for GLXi by Making a DEAR GLXi Video!

  1. Find a time and place to pick up a book – anytime, anywhere. Remember, the more random or creative this is, the better!

  2. Record or have a friend record your #DropEverythingAndRead moment, and mention #DEARGLXi. A shout out is great!

  3. Share to your chosen social media platform (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and – this is the important part – make sure to include the hashtags #DEARGLXi #BooksforGuatemala #DropEverythingAndRead

  4. Spread the word and encourage others to get involved and buy #BooksforGuatemala on this page!

Have fun with this! We can’t wait to see what you contribute to our campaign!

So far, more than 15,350 Guatemalan students have been given new hope and a chance at a brighter future. But we can’t stop there.

Example DEAR GLXI Videos
From Our Teachers & Supporters

Drop Everything And Read for GLXi like our friend, St. Louis musician and former radio personality, Curt Copeland and his family!

One of our GLXi-trained teachers in Guatemala rallied her students to get in on the DEAR GLXi video fun!

We know there is a community here who cares deeply about reading and literacy, and about creating equal educational opportunities for ALL children. We hope to tap into that shared interest and create a new channel of giving from St. Louis to Guatemala, starting with something that so many of us take for granted – a single book.”
